The primary service that Susan offers is listening, which is an overlooked variable in current medicine. In the 20 years’ she’s been in practice, she has learned that if she listens well enough, the patient will guide her to an informed diagnosis and treatment plan. Oftentimes, the patient will be able to pinpoint to a particular time, event or issue to which she attributes meaning for her current complaints. With a thorough history, Susan can order or review the appropriate labs to identify or rule out causes that create or exacerbate the health concern.

Susan does not apply a ‘kitchen sink’ approach to her lab review. She will order serum, saliva, dried urine or stool testing appropriate to the signs and symptoms, saving time and money in treatment. For example, serum will inform as to what the body is producing; saliva and/or dried urine will inform as to how well the body is utilizing what it is producing; and stool will inform as to how well the body is assimilating and eliminating and whether there is an upset to the balance of the microbiome in the digestive tract.

Susan recommends practitioner-grade supplementation as appropriate. For example, if a patient is not assimilating well, she prescribes limited supplementation to maximize results, adding and removing products as progress is made. She is concerned that patients use the “Dr. Google” method of determining what they should be taking, and order online or at a discount store for saving money. However, many products are only as good as their manufacture, their storage and their expiration date; therefore, attempts at savings come at a greater cost, for the efficacy is not available, and the prescriptions are incorrect. She uses a limited group of practitioner level e-stores and prescribes to each patient exactly what s/he needs and in what dosage.
